Indonesia's Most Spectacular Summits

The most spectacular walks in Indonesia include smoldering volcanic craters, enormous waterfalls, lush rainforests, and unusual species that are unique to this planet. More than any other country in the world, this island nation is home to 400 volcanoes, and the majority of them are accessible to hikers. Although Mount Batur in Bali is undoubtedly the most well-known volcano in Indonesia, there are actually better volcanoes to climb in locations like Java, Sulawesi, and Sumatra. Over 17,000 islands make up Indonesia, and there are a ton of hiking paths to pick from.
Kawah Ijen (East Java)
The largest acid lake in the world is located in a volcanic crater lake called Kawah Ijen. It is also well-known for a bizarre phenomena known as "blue fire," when bright blue flames may be seen glowing like lava at night. It's not too difficult to go to Mount Ijen from Bali or other Indonesian provinces because it's situated at the most eastern tip of Java. Most travelers either drive there from Bali on a road trip that also includes Mount Bromo and other famous landmarks in East Java, or they take an overnight excursion from Bali to Mount Ijen. All-dirt, somewhat challenging trek up Kawah Ijen volcano, yet safe and clearly marked trail.

Mount Sumbing (Central Java)
Mount Sumbing is Central Java's second-highest volcano, rising 3,371 meters above sea level. You will be greeted by a beautiful dawn in an extraordinary 360 degree panoramic view as you ascend up the route to the summit of this gorgeous volcano. When you get to the crater, you can enjoy the view from a short distance away, which includes a hillside of white rocks, boiling water, and mud pools, as well as an 800 m wide crater on its crest that gives an outstanding scene. Near the crater, hikers may take advantage of a lovely savanna and little sand sea. This may be a wonderful choice for individuals seeking an easy to moderate volcano experience and wanting to see the undiscovered paradise of Central Java.

Mount Ciremai (West Java)
Mount Ciremai is a lone volcano that rises 3,078 meters above sea level and has two craters at its summit: East Crater and West Crater. The volcanic terrain and stunning rainforest make for a remarkable excursion, even for experienced hikers. Panorama views and hikes with varied degrees of difficulty are available in Mount Ciremai National Park.  Hikers can go from the Majalengka or Kuningan regencies to the peak. Both have difficult journeys of their own. But the journey to the top will be worthwhile since it offers a beautiful panorama, a crater, dawn, and a sea of white clouds. To explore the craters, see the dawn, and visit other picturesque locations, the trek up this mountain would take two days and one night.

Kabut Pelangi Waterfall (East Java)
Amazing waterfalls may be found across Java's hills and highlands, but the Kabut Pelangi waterfall in East Java is one of the greatest. Although it's not quite as well-known as Tumpak Sewu, I think this one is at least equally stunning, and many people travel from Malang to both of them in one day. It takes around 45 minutes to trek to Kabut Pelangi, and due to the steep terrain, the return trip takes a little longer. The route to the main waterfall is not too challenging, although it can occasionally be difficult to view, particularly if you visit during or just after the wet season.

Mount Merbabu (Central Java)
Located in Central Java, Mount Merbabu is a 3,145-meter-tall inactive stratovolcano that is regarded as one of Java's most beautiful mountains. It offers breathtaking views from its summit and is surrounded by several other mountains. You should plan on spending six to eight hours altogether on the walk up Mount Merbabu. However, simply taking in this view is worth every step! Once you climb this mountain, you're going to view some incredible sights, so make sure your camera is ready to go. You must personally experience this to really understand it. The ascent and descent of this peak often take two days and one night.
