Komodo National Park

Komodo, Rinca, Gili Motang, Nusa Kode, other small islands and surrounding sea are the area that formed Komodo National Park in Manggarai Barat (West Manggarai) Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur (East Nusa Tenggara) Province. Other than Komodo (Varanus komodoensis), there are wild horse (Equus caballus), wild water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis), long-tailed monkey (Macaca vascicularis) and several avian species that live in the National Park.

Sailing to Land of Dragons

From above, it can be seen several huge and small islands, looks like they are floating on Komodo Sea. Dry & barren are the first impression that came out when seeing those islands. However, clear bluish water wiped out that impression. Brown and blue is the perfect colour combination to draw tropical scenery.

Komodo, Rinca, Gili Motang, Nusa Kode, other small islands and surrounding sea are the area that formed Komodo National Park in Manggarai Barat Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur Province. This National Park is the home for Komodo dragon. Other than that, there are wild horse, wild water buffalo, long-tailed monkey, and several avian species that live in the terrestrial of the National Park.

As the key species in this UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve, Komodo dragon is the most attractive animal in this National Park. In addition, there are natural savanna, beaches, and underwater life that are worth to enjoy while in Komodo National Park.

Vast savanna cover 70 percent of area of the National Park, species of the flora that predominantly built the character of the area are Papyrus (Borassus flabellifer) and lote-trees (Zizyphus juju).

As the key species in this UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve, Komodo dragon is the most attractive animal in this National Park. Every visitor, as it is a-must-seen fauna, will have a look at those dragon either at Loh Liang on Komodo Island or at Loh Buaya on Rinca Island.


But, not only those magnificent creatures that can impress all the tourists, yet the natural savanna, beaches, and underwater life are also the ultimate attraction which can give satisfaction to those who visit the National Park. Activities, such as having leisure on the beach at Padar Island, or so-called Pink Beach because the natural pink-coloured beach sand, just minutes away from Loh Liang can give priceless experience.

The marine area of the National Park are migration route for 5 whale species, 10 dolphin species, green turtles, hawksbill turtles, dugong, and several kinds of shark and ray.
